Continued growth at Gleiss Lutz: Firm appoints three new partners

Gleiss Lutz has announced the appointment of three new partners: Dr. Jan Balssen (corporate/M&A, Munich), Dr. Kai Arne Birke (finance, Frankfurt) and Dr. Marco König (public law, Stuttgart). The promotions will take effect from 1 January 2012 and will bring the total number of partners to 89.

Managing partner Dr. Rainer Loges comments: “We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Jan Balssen, Kai Arne Birke and Marco König. All are excellent lawyers who are well respected by clients and colleagues alike.”

Dr. Jan Balssen advises companies on M&A transactions and general corporate law. He specialises in cross-border transactions and private equity. Most recently he was part of the Gleiss Lutz team that advised Infineon Technologies on the sale of its wireless solutions division to Intel. Jan Balssen also has extensive experience in merger control proceedings.

Dr. Kai Arne Birke specialises in banking, finance and capital markets. He advises companies, banks and other financial institutions on acquisition financing as well as asset-backed securities, debt securities and restructuring.. Kai Arne Birke recently acted for Celesio AG on the issuing of a convertible bond and for a banking syndicate on the issuing of a corporate bond by Fresenius Medical Care.

Dr. Marco König advises on health law, public procurement and administrative law. He specialises in the healthcare sector. In addition, Marco advises both contracting authorities and bidders on public procurement issues. In 2011 Marco advised local general health insurance funds (AOKs) on their sixth pan-European call for tenders for drug discount contracts and various statutory health insurance funds in legal disputes with the Federal Cartel Office over alleged anticompetitive practices in connection with the introduction of additional contributions.
