Gleiss Lutz has successfully advised Qimonda AG (Munich) in a major state aid procedure at the European Commission and the national authorities. The state aid will be granted for the conversion of the existing and the construction of a new DRAM wafer plant in Dresden.
DRAMs (also known as “memory chips”) are highly complex microchips that are used in computers, entertainment electronics, games consoles, mobile communications, household equipment and other electronic devices. The investment project involves eligible costs of €1.2 billion with an aid amount of €165.6 million.
The case has been handled by Dr. Ulrich Soltész (Partner, EU State aid, Brussels), Dr. Burghard Hildebrandt (Partner, Regulatory and State aid, Berlin), and Dr. Johann Wagner (Tax, Berlin).
For many years Gleiss Lutz has been an important player in the field of national and EU State aid. The firm has been particularly active in the semiconductor industry where Gleiss Lutz has advised on a number of major projects.
