Gleiss Lutz successfully advises GLOBALFOUNDRIES in State aid procedure at the European Commission

Gleiss Lutz has successfully advised GLOBALFOUNDRIES in a major state aid procedure at the European Commission and the national authorities. The EU Commission has today approved a German state aid package of € 219 million for the extension of GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 1 in Dresden. The total investment costs amount to approximately € 2 billion. During implementation of the project, GLOBALFOUNDRIES will increase the capacity of its existing Dresden site and to this end also construct another manufacturing building. This will add more than 10,000 m² of cleanroom space to a then total of more than 50,000 m². The extension will make GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 1 in Dresden one of the largest wafer fabs worldwide.

The case has been handled by Ulrich Soltész (Partner), Philipp Melcher (both EU State aid, Brussels), Burghard Hildebrandt (Partner, Regulatory and State aid, Dusseldorf), and Johann Wagner (Investment subsidies, Hamburg).

For many years Gleiss Lutz has been an important player in the field of national and EU State aid. The firm has been particularly active in the semiconductor industry where Gleiss Lutz has advised on a number of major projects.
