Gleiss Lutz took home two accolades at German business weekly WirtschaftWoche's 2022 Best of Legal Awards. The ceremony on 29 November 2022 saw Gleiss Lutz take first place in the Sustainability Projects category for its Digital Guide for Refugees from Ukraine. The firm's ESG team came in second in the Team of the Year category.
The Digital Guide for Refugees from Ukraine app is now available in five languages and provides refugees arriving in Germany with basic guidance, help in dealing with the authorities and an overview of available assistance, such as healthcare, internet access, accommodation, jobs, travel and much more. The project was implemented in just 48 hours, shortly after war broke out, by an interdisciplinary team of employees from Legal Tech, Legal Operations, Business Development, Marketing and Communications as well as a large number of Gleiss Lutz lawyers. The app also recently won a PMN Management Award. Marc Geiger, Director Legal Operations & Business Technologies at Gleiss Lutz and the project's initiator, said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition for a project that is very close to the firm's heart."
Gleiss Lutz's ESG team was runner-up in the Team of the Year category. The firm has set up a cross-disciplinary ESG industry group with lawyers from numerous fields of law. “We were one of the first leading German law firms to embrace ESG, and our full service approach makes us ideally positioned to advise clients extensively on it – allowing us to establish ourselves in the marketplace as ESG thought leaders," said Dr. Vera Rothenburg, who heads the ESG industry group together with Dr. Marc Ruttloff and Prof. Eric Wagner.
Prof. Michael Arnold, co-managing partner at Gleiss Lutz, said: “The two awards emphasize not only that we are considered leading advisors on the complex legal challenges around ESG, but also the central role that ESG plays for us internally as a law firm."
WirtschaftsWoche's Best of Legal Awards recognise the most innovative firms in the German legal industry. Winners are chosen by a panel of top-flight judges comprised of corporate lawyers, media representatives and other industry experts.
