Gleiss Lutz appoints new managing partners

On 21 November 2015, the partners of leading law firm Gleiss Lutz elected Alexander Schwarz and Michael Arnold as the firm’s new managing partners. From 1 January 2016 they will be acting as co-managing partners, taking over from Rainer Loges whose term ends on 31 December 2015 after having led the firm since 2008. In addition to their management duties, Michael Arnold and Alexander Schwarz will both continue to be fully involved in regular casework. They have been elected for an initial term of four years.

“The firm has developed exceptionally well under Rainer Loges’ stewardship over the past eight years”, says Michael Arnold. “Not only clients and competitors but also young legal professionals view the firm as one of Germany’s leading independent law firms. We want to pursue and expand on this approach in the years ahead” adds Alexander Schwarz.

Alexander Schwarz is one of Germany’s leading M&A lawyers and works from the firm’s Düsseldorf office, which he helped build up as a founding partner since 2009. He joined Gleiss Lutz in 1998 and has been a partner since 2003. Alexander has been responsible for human resources at Gleiss Lutz since 2011; he will continue to manage this area in addition to his new duties.

Michael Arnold joined Gleiss Lutz’s Stuttgart office in 1999, where he has since advised clients on stock corporation law and corporate litigation. His practice focuses on management and supervisory board-related matters, shareholder meetings, corporate group law issues and compliance. He has been a partner at Gleiss Lutz since 2004. As a member of the partnership council he has been actively shaping the firm’s development since 2012. And as one of the “leading corporate partners” (Juve Handbuch 2015/2016) he also has excellent ties with members of executive and supervisory boards. Michael was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the University of Tübingen in 2014.

Rainer Loges, one of Germany’s leading M&A lawyers, will be returning fulltime to his casework from next year on. “The past eight years have been an exciting period, which I enjoyed very much. Nonetheless, I very much look forward to devoting my full attention to M&A projects once again.”

The partnership council elected as its new chairman Frankfurt-based partner Wolfgang Bosch (competition/antitrust).
