Gleiss Lutz advises VKTA and the Free State of Saxony in connection with the conclusion of a public law contract on the transfer of responsibility for nuclear fuels from the former Rossendorf research reactor

A Gleiss Lutz team advised VKTA – Radiation Protection, Analytics & Disposal Rossendorf e.V. (VKTA) and the Free State of Saxony in connection with the conclusion of a public law contract for the transfer of 18 CASTOR® MTR2 casks containing nuclear fuels from the former GDR Dresden-Rossendorf research reactor. With this contract, the Federal Republic is assuming responsibility for these nuclear fuels.

VKTA - financed by the Free State of Saxony - is realising the dismantling of the old nuclear facilities at the former GDR Dresden-Rossendorf research site. This includes the safe disposal of nuclear materials and radioactive waste as well as long-term radiation protection at the site. VKTA also offers its services to external partners in possession of nuclear waste for demanding tasks and projects in nuclear or industry-related fields of activity.

The following team of Gleiss Lutz lawyers provided advice in connection with the conclusion of the public law contract: Dr Marc Ruttloff (partner, Public Law, Stuttgart, lead), Prof Dr Michael Uechtritz (of counsel, Public Law, Stuttgart), Prof Dr Eric Wagner (partner, Dispute Resolution, Stuttgart), Dr Johann Wagner (partner), Dr Hendrik Marchal (counsel, both Tax, Hamburg) and Dr Lisa Freihoff (associate, Public Law, Stuttgart).
