Gleiss Lutz advised Spanish Grupo Alfonso Gallardo on its indirect sale of Stahlwerk Thüringen GmbH. The purchaser is the Brazilian Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), which also acquired other assets of Grupo Alfonso Gallardo in Spain as part of the transaction. The deal was worth a total of EUR 970 million. Gleiss Lutz advised on the German aspects of the transaction as well as, in particular, on restructuring issues.
Grupo Alfonso Gallardo is Spain’s largest producer of steel. Gleiss Lutz already advised the group in 2006 on the acquisition of Stahlwerk Thüringen, which at that time operated under the name of Arcelor Thüringen.
