
Gleiss Lutz has advised the media company We Are Era, a subsidiary of the RTL Group, on its strategic investment in the Kings League.
With its 20% stake, We Are Era is helping shape the expansion of the league to Germany. The partnership covers key areas such as content production, marketing and sponsorships, branding and communications, as well as access to top German creators and the streaming community.
The Kings League is a soccer league co-founded in 2022 by Spanish former professional soccer player Gerard Piqué. With interactive show elements, innovative rule concepts and a combination of high-quality soccer, entertainment and the involvement of international sports icons and social media stars, the league has established a new format for the digital attention economy. Millions of fans follow the matches on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, and the league regularly sells out stadiums and arenas.
We Are Era is an international company in the creator economy with around 400 employees and this strategic investment represents another milestone in its growth story. Gleiss Lutz also recently advised We Are Era on its acquisition of 100 percent of the shares in the digital agency Social Match.
