Renowned lawyer and Gleiss Lutz partner Hans Schlarmann dies

Prof. Dr. Hans Schlarmann, head of the public law/real estate practice group, died in Stuttgart on 18 January 2017 at the age of 66 following a serious illness. Born on 18 October 1950, Hans became a partner in the firm in 1984 and played a significant role in its growth over the years.

He studied law at the Universities of Munich, Bochum, Freiburg, Geneva and Münster. After obtaining his doctorate in 1980, he joined the law firm of Gleiss Lutz as a lawyer in 1981 and worked for a total of more than three decades in the Stuttgart office. Hans Schlarmann was an outstanding lawyer in the area of public law/real estate and headed this practice for years. He specialised in administrative law, with an emphasis on public construction and planning, as well as public health.

Hans Schlarmann was appointed honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim in 2007. In addition, he was a member of the Research Centre for Environmental Law at the Humboldt University in Berlin, the Society for Environmental Law (GfU), the German Society for Construction Law and the "Road Law" Working Committee at the University of Bonn. He was also a judge on the Baden-Württemberg disciplinary tribunal for judges.

“We are mourning an excellent lawyer, our longstanding partner and, not least, a good friend. Few others have embodied the values of Gleiss Lutz like Hans Schlarmann did”, said Dr. Wolfgang Bosch, chairman of the partnership council at Gleiss Lutz, recognising Hans’s lasting impact on the firm.
