British industry publication International Financial Law Review (IFLR) has honoured the takeover of Syngenta by ChemChina as the "M&A Deal of the Year" at the IFLR European Awards 2018. Gleiss Lutz advised Syngenta in this cross-border transaction, managing the merger control proceedings at EU level and coordinating the merger control filings with the competent authorities in more than 20 countries.
Gleiss Lutz was also responsible for coordinating the investment control proceedings around the world. Employment specialists at the firm also looked into the participation rights of employee representatives worldwide.
Dr. Ingo Brinker, partner at Gleiss Lutz and lead lawyer advising Syngenta, accepted the prize on 19 April in London: "This is a great acknowledgement of our efforts in a highly complex, cross-border case. It shows that we have continued to strengthen and build on our position as the leading German antitrust practice and internationally as the leading independent law firm."
The takeover of STADA by financial investors Bain Capital and Cinven – another transaction in which Gleiss Lutz was involved – was nominated in the category "Private Equity Deal of the Year". Here, Gleiss Lutz assisted Perella Weinberg as financial advisor of STADA Arzneimittel AG.
