Gleiss Lutz with three new partners as from January 1, 2011

Gleiss Lutz continues its expansion and has appointed three associated partners as equity partners effective from January 1, 2011. Rainer Loges, managing partner at Gleiss Lutz, said: “We are pleased to announce the promotion of three excellent young lawyers, Christian Arnold, Michael Burian and Stefan Mayer, to the firm’s partnership”.

Dr. Christian Arnold (Stuttgart) advises on collective and individual employment law. He specialises in concluding and terminating services contracts with executive board members and managing directors as well as (cross-border) restructurings, in particular where co-determination issues play a role. He also regularly advises on matters of work constitution, collective agreements and industrial action. Most recently, Christian advised Behr on the conclusion of a participation agreement with Mahle as well as executive board members of Porsche in connection with their leaving the company.

Dr. Michael Burian (Stuttgart) advises companies on transactions and takeovers, especially on cross-border-related projects with an Asian dimension. From 2006 to 2008 Michael was seconded to the Tokyo office of Herbert Smith, Gleiss Lutz’ Alliance partner. Ever since, he has regularly advised Asian (and, in particular, Japanese and Korean) clients on issues of German law, and provided support to German companies on projects in Asia. In 2010, he advised Canon Inc., Sony Corporation, Teijin Limited, Arakawa Chemical Industries, Ltd. and most recently Mitsubishi Electric Corporation on transactions.

Dr. Stefan Mayer (Frankfurt) advises clients in German and international tax law matters with a special focus on transaction-related tax advice. He also acts on M&A transactions and restructurings. His practice further covers tax planning issues and advising companies on reorganisations. In 2010, Stefan’s projects included advising Infineon on tax-related issues in connection with the sale of its wireless solutions business to Intel (deal worth approx. EUR 1.1 billion.).
