Gleiss Lutz has advised Würth Solar on the disposal of its innovation line for the production of CIGS solar modules, including R&D, to high-tech equipment manufacturer Manz AG. Würth Solar and Manz had signed an LOI to this extent in November 2011. In addition to the production facility in Schwäbisch Hall, Manz is expected to take over a total of 118 employees with effect from 1 January 2012. The deal also involves the transfer of certain related IP rights and know-how to Manz.
The aim is, in particular, to speed up R&D on CIGS solar modules at the Schwäbisch Hall site. In future, Würth Solar will be focussing exclusively on marketing photovoltaic components and systems as well as turnkey solar power plants.
Würth Solar was advised by the following team of Gleiss Lutz lawyers: Dr. Jochen Tyrolt (partner), Dr. Martin Viciano Gofferje (both lead), Dr. Martin Schockenhoff (partner, all corporate/M&A) und Dr. Herwig Lux (IP, all Stuttgart).
