On 7 October 2024, the government of Baden-Württemberg signed an agreement on the future of agriculture and biodiversity in the federal state with around fifty representatives from the areas of farming, conservation, retail, food processing and production, civil society, science, religion and politics. This agreement is the outcome of the Dialogue on Agricultural Strategy (Strategiedialog Landwirtschaft) that was launched by the state government in September 2022.
Over the past two years, Gleiss Lutz has assisted the office of Baden-Württemberg’s prime minister on antitrust matters, advising on various issues where sustainability and the protection of market competition intersect.
The agreement aims to develop agriculture on a sustainable basis, strengthening regional producers and biodiversity at one and the same time. It includes recommended actions for and specific commitments by the signatories. In total, the state government will provide an additional EUR 143 million for implementation of the measures agreed in the Dialogue.
The following Gleiss Lutz team advised the office of Baden-Württemberg’s prime minister: Dr. Johannes Hertfelder (lead), Dr. Ulrich Denzel (both partners), Dr. Daniela Drixler (all Competition/Antitrust, Stuttgart).
